Oke-Nze Nwosu Transits at 94

The Nwosuala Uwalaka family of Ofeama Ife, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo state, has announced the peaceful transition of its patriarch, Oke-Nze D.N.A Nwosu at the graceful age of 94. 

Born in December 1923, David Nwanosike Anyanwu Nwosu who held the traditional title of Ome-Udo 1 of Ife started his career as a teacher in the old East Central State. In his biography, he wrote: “I took to teaching immediately I finished school. This profession greatly enhanced my knowledge and understanding”. 

Nze Nwosu who was also the Chairman Eze-in-Council of Ife Ezinihitte Mbaise, Imo state, later relocated to Lagos after eight years of teaching ‘in search of greener pastures’. The outbreak of the civil war in 1967 saw Nze Nwosu heading back home and later  to Port-Harcourt, the Rivers State capital-where he was hired to help reactivate a company owned by his friend and fellow kinsman. After about four years, he left ‘to build up a joint venture with two others as the managing director’. 

During and after the war, Oke Nze Nwosu played an active role in the humanitarian efforts-working with Save the Children’s Fund(SCF)-an arm of the UN, as Assistant administrator and secretary among others. During the war, he also served as the Secretary of Ife town council 

Nze Nwosu also served as the president-general of Mbaise Social Welfare club of Nigeria for 8 years as well as Ugo social club of Nigeria. He remained the chief patron of Mbaise Social Welfare club until his death. 

“I did not leave serving my God, for in 1997, I successfully became a licensed lay reader in the Anglican communinion” he concluded in his ‘ a concise profile of D.N.A Nwosu’, he wrote in 2002. He will buried on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Umuka, Ofeama, Ife Ezinihitte Mbaise Imo state.
