No Movement for Eagles in May FIFA Ranking

Nigeria’s World Cup-bound Super Eagles maintained their 47th position of last month in the May FIFA Ranking released by the game’s governing body in Zurich on Thursday. The three-time African champions also maintained their sixth spot in the continental grading.

Eagles’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualifying opponents also keep their previous positions as South Africa, Libya and Seychelles stay 72nd, 100th and 194th in the world respectively. And the Democratic Republic of Congo who will face the Eagles on an international friendly on May 28, remains number 38 in the world.

Similarly, Nigeria’s Russia 2018 Group D opponents, Croatia, Iceland and Argentina all maintained their previous rankings. Argentina remains number five in the world, Croatia in number 18 and World Cup debutants Iceland on number 22.

Most of the top 50 remained unchanged with Germany, Brazil and Belgium the leading trio from last month with Portugal in the fourth spot and Argentina fifth. In sixth place is Switzerland, France seventh, Spain eighth, Chile ninth and Poland 10th to complete the Top Ten of world football.

In short, the first 47 positions remain totally unchanged from April’s ranking

The next FIFA ranking will be published on June 7, 2018.
