Anxiety Grips Ilorin Residents over Rumoured Bank Robbery

From Hammed Shittu in Ilorin

Residents of Ilorin, Kwara State capital, were gripped by anxiety on Friday over a robbery scare at one of the new generation banks in the town.

As early as 9.00 am, residents of the town, especially those passing through the Unity road, in Ilorin were apprehensive over purported attack on a bank located on Unity Road.

The development, according to THISDAY checks, made many residents driving through the area, especially workers, to make U-turn while commuters disembarked from vehicles and took to their heels.

The state police command promptly moved a detachment of anti riot policemen to Unity Road and other strategic locations in the state in response to the rumoured bank robbery.

The state police command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, denied that robbery attack was launched on the said bank as rumored.

The statement said, “the alarm being raised over the alleged bank robbery along Unity and Taiwo areas of Ilorin was fake, false and a ploy to cause unnecessary panic in the minds of the people of the state”.

According to the statement, “the command assured members of the public of their safety, and its preparedness to provide needed security cover for all the banks in particular and people of Kwara in general”.

The command however urged residents to be vigilant and make information of any untoward movement available to the police.
