Restrict yourself to Guidelines for Execution of CDS Projects, NYSC Members Told

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has told corps members to restrict themselves to the guidelines for the execution of Community Development projects.
The Niger State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Theresa Arokoyo, gave the advice in Minna on Wednesday while speaking at the inauguration of the  CDS project executed by Miss Veronica Itiku at Jatapi village, Gidan Kwanu near Minna.
Mrs Arokoyo said deviation from the guidelines for the execution of CDS projects would result in the inability of the NYSC to recommend such projects for National Honours award.
“Corps members should embark on laudable CDS projects which are beneficial to their host communities.
“Such projects should however be carried out following strictly the laid down rules as stipulated by the NYSC guidelines. Any deviation may amount to the inability of the NYSC to recommend such projects for National Honors award,” she said.
The state coordinator said that with the inauguration of the CDS project executed by Miss Itiku “the NYSC scheme has again shown that it has not only sustained its mandate to mobilise graduate youths so as to instill in them the tradition of industry at work, but also to encourage nationalistic tendencies in the youths by being their brothers’ keepers”.
Arokoyo commended Itiku for executing the project and the Jatapi community for cooperating with her.
Itiku said in her remarks that she was moved to executing the projects because of the high degree of dilapidation of the health centre and the trauma the people of the community were going through.
She said: “I was told that for 13 years of its existence the clinic had no toilet. This revelation created a revolution in me because health is said to be the greatest wealth and a healthy community is a wealthy community.”
The village head of Gidan Kwanu, Alhaji Abdulmalik Muhammed, expressed the appreciation of the community to the corps member for renovating the health centre in the area.
The CDS project entailed the renovation of the health centre, construction of toilets for staff and patients as well as provision of furniture.
Itiku is presently serving at the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
