The Association of Casual and Voluntary Health Workers in Katsina State has appealed to Governor Aminu Masari’s administration to regularise their appointments in recognition of their contribution to the state.
The association’s chairman, Malam Surajo Danladi Malumfashi, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Malumfashi on Wednesday, noting that despite the minimum amount of monthly stipends being collected by members, they undertake almost equal jobs with regular workers.
“Casual staff are earning not more than 10 per cent of the permanent staff with whom they have the same qualification and experience,” he said.
Danladi expressed members’ support for Masari’s administration, adding that they had made similar overtures to previous governments but were not successful.
According to him, some of the association’s members started working on casual bases since 2003, adding that they were assured of full employment when the local government autonomy was secured in at least six months’ period.
“To our surprise many employments were made within various periods and when we confronted the government officials they always said our case is special.
“In 2008, this association organised a rally within the state where members from all the 34 local government areas and from there executives from the three senatorial zones were selected,’’ Danladi said.
He said the association had been contacting governors and top state government officials through various means and they always make promises that the issues would be resolved soon “but we are still waiting”.
He said that the association has expressed its support for the present administration of Governor Masari and hoped that it would heed their demands.
Danladi said that most of them are married, adding that their remunerations have remained the same despite their large families.
