Igbo in the North Applaud Efforts to Tackle Ethnic Crises

The Association of Eze Igbo in the 19 northern states and Abuja has commended individuals and government officials who had been working tirelessly to prevent a resurgence of any major ethnic crisis in the country especially between Igbo and their northern counterparts.

The umbrella body of Eze Igbo in the North, which gave the commendation at the end of its two-day meeting held in Abuja, expressed satisfactory with the roles played by concerned Nigerians which led to amicable resolution of the October 1, 2017 quit notice issued to Ndigbo living in the region by the some northern youths.

According to the communiqué issued by the Chairman, Dr. Pampas M.I.N. Nwahiwe, Eze Igbo Minna, Niger State, and General Secretary, Professor Jerome Obilom, Eze Igbo, Jos, Plateau State, respectively, the association also affirmed the suspension of Eze Igbo, Abuja, Ibe Nwosu.

The association also said it had resolved to mobilise and encourage Ndigbo in the North to endeavour to register and obtain their permanent voter’s cards to enable them vote in 2019 general election.

The association in the communiqué, “Reaffirmed its commitment towards sustaining and strengthening the peace and unity existing between the Igbos and their host communities in the North.

“Commended the efforts of those who worked relentlessly and contributed in one way or the other to avert the crisis that would have resulted from the quit notice given Igbos in the North.

“Endorsed and reaffirmed the suspension of Ibe Nwosu, Eze Igbo Abuja, from its membership for his fragrant display of arrogance, disrespect to constituted authority, actions which the association considered unbecoming of a traditional ruler and detrimental to the interest, wellbeing and unity of Ndigbo, not only in Abuja but the entire Northern Nigeria.

“In his place, Ezeudo Uche Egenti, who is the Ezeudo of the Airport District Abuja and President of Ndi Ezeudos in 19 northern states and Abuja, was mandated to oversee the activities of the association concerning Ndigbo in FCT.
“Considered reports presented by Ezes from various states on the state of affairs concerning the welfare, security and unity of Ndigbo in 19 northern states and Abuja.

“Appealed to the federal government to find lasting solution to incessant conflict between farmers and herdsmen, which has resulted in the loss of many lives and disruption of economic activities in various parts of the country, especially the North-central zone.”

The association “Commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his untiring effort in tacking the menace of corruption in the country, especially the recovery of looted funds from within and outside the country.”
