C’River Inaugurates LOC for Falcons, Flying Eagles Matches

The Cross River State Government has constituted a Local Organising Committee (LOC), for the hosting of the 2018 Women’s AFCON qualifier between the Super Falcons and their Gambian female national football team counterparts at the UJ. Esuene Stadium on Saturday May 19, 2018

The LOC would also take charge of the hosting of Nigeria’s Under-20 football team, the Flying Eagles clash with Guinea Bissau slated also for the U J. Esuene Stadium on June 12, this year.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Okang Asu, who inaugurated the 20- member LOC in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Sports, said that they are expected to put modalities in place to ensure that the matches are hosted without hitch.

Asu listed the LOC headed by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Mr. Effiom Effiwatt as the Permanent Secretary state ministry of sports, Mrs. Ninka Takon, the Secretary of the state’s Football Association, Mr. Mike Ushie as the Secretary, with the representative of the state’s Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) as member.

Also to serve is a commissioner in the state’s Sports Commission, Mr. Ekanem Ekpenyong, the Director of Facilities in the UJ. Esuene Stadium, Mr. Omara Coco-Bassey; Protocol Unit in the Governor’s Office represented by Mr. Otu Abang and a representative of the state’s Security Adviser among others.

The commissioner enjoined the LOC to sustain the positive legacies of their predecessors by ensuring that the state, and indeed Calabar re-enacts its previous history of successful hosting of national events.

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Effiwatt pledged that the LOC under his watch will deliver on the mandate to justify the confidence reposed on its membership and enjoined all hands to be on deck.

Effiwat said that some of those appointed are quite experienced and will deliver the expected of them.
