Following the death of a voter at the local government congresses of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held last Saturday, the police in Lagos Tuesday said they have arrested three persons in connection with the crime.

The suspects were alleged to have been involved in the death of one Nurudeen Lanlese at the venue of the local government congress held in Central Primary School, Agege.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased was killed during a fracas that erupted over the non inclusion of the names of some delegates in the primaries.

Those arrested in connection with the crime were identified as Bosun Adigun, Sabitu Kamorudeen and Semiyu Ogunbono.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, while briefing media men Tuesday at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, said the election was allegedly factionalised which led to a protest.

He said: “During the local government party congress by the All Progressives Congress at Central Community Primary School, Oniwaya, Agege, Lagos, a protest broke out.

“Consequently, some disgruntled ward members protested their non inclusion in the electoral process.

“However, during the ensuing pandemonium, gun shots were heard from a distance. When the noise died down, one Nurudeen Lanlese, 40, was found in a pool of blood.”

The Lagos police boss further revealed that the gunshots were heard by policemen who promptly arrived the scene.

He said on-the-spot investigations conducted by the police team revealed that the fracas erupted as a result of the non inclusion of the names of some delegates.

He said the investigation also revealed that the aggrieved party members discovered that their names had been removed from the list of those eligible to vote.

This shocking discovery, according to the CP, led to fracas and some of the hoodlums opened fire which claimed the life of the deceased.

Edgal said that three persons were arrested and that they were discovered to have had a hand in the killing of Nurudeen.

He said: “Bosun Adigun, Sabitu Kamorudeen, and Semiu Ogunbono who were suspects in the murder were arrested and will be charged to court after investigation.”
