The opposition All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has embarked on “a rescue mission in Abia” and is now well prepared to push out the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Abia government house.

Already, the party, which made a very strong impact in the 2015 governorship and House of Assembly polls in Abia, has continued to be upbeat as it strategises to upstage the PDP come 2019.

To make good its intention, a meeting was held Tuesday at the party’s secretariat along Ikot Ekpene road Umuahia to fine tune strategies. It was attended by members of the State Working Committee (SWC), local government chairmen of the party and representatives of the contact group from the national leadership.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Political Adviser to Anambra State Governor, Chief Ifeatu Obi Okoye, said that APGA was now better organised and better equipped to take “what belongs to us in Abia”.

He said that APGA, which controls Anambra State, has demonstrated its capacity and capability for good governance hence it was desirous of replicating its performance in Abia through its rescue mission.

“If we can do it in Anambra, we can do it here in Abia,” he said, adding that the people of God’s own state were yearning for the party that would come and transform the state.

Okoye, who was the immediate past national publicity secretary of APGA, noted that the party has continued to wax strong in Abia and has actually won the governorship poll in 2015 but was ‘robbed’ of its victory.

However, he insisted that come 2019 general election, APGA would not only repeat its 2015 performance in Abia but would go the extra mile of actually taking over the government house Umuahia by wining and defending its votes.

On the apparent division in the Abia chapter of APGA, Okoye said that there was no faction in the party, pointing out that virtually every person was at the meeting held at the party’s secretariat hence “it is a good sign that this party is united”.

He also said that the party was not losing sleep over the loss of some of its lawmakers elected on its platform who later abandoned APGA for the ruling PDP, saying: “The more they go the more they come.”

The political adviser urged APGA leaders in Abia to be more focused, close their ranks for the battle ahead, adding that as soon as the primary election is over “we will unite everybody to take over Abia government house”.
