The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Akanbi has disclosed that he conferred the title ‘Pride of Yorubaland’ on Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as a gesture in appreciation of his giant stride in Osun State.
Oba Akanbi, while playing host to Aregbesola in his palace, extolled the landmarks which Osun State has recorded from 2010 when his administration came into power to date, urging him to continue his good work till his last day in office.
The monarch noted that the title was his royal response to the transformation which the government had brought to bear in Osun State since his inauguration eight years ago, adding that the honour is befitting and a motivation to the recipient.
The traditional ruler specifically referenced the ongoing upgrading of Osogbo, the state capital by Aregbesola administration, while challenging whoever differs with his point to a public debate.
“I should be talking for my town but I am father of all. Because of this, the transformation of Osogbo is worthy of mention and an achievement in the record of Governor Aregbesola. The Osogbo, we have today, with overhead bridge, is a modern capital city that can stand side by side with other developed state capitals.
“In the whole of Nigeria, it was Aregbesola that built Trumpet-shaped flyover. Travellers along Ibadan-Ife road appreciate the design more. What I am supposed to do for the governor behind this project is the title I gave him,†he said.
When asked of his right to proclaim such title, the Oluwo stressed that he is a first class paramount ruler under whom no fewer than 25 rulers are, asserting that he is qualified to bestow such honour on any Yoruba man or woman who contributes to the development of any state in Yorubaland.
However, Oba Akanbi admonished politicians across board to play the game according to the rules rather than turning elections to war. He reminded the politicians that they are one family in different parties, asking them to always remember the life after campaign and elections.
“I enjoy listening to politicians who come around and discuss issues, issues that motivate both the young and old. At the same time, I don’t like hearing politicians engaging in the use of abusive words against one another. That is not 21st Century politics. That is not where we should be. That is not politics but ignorance. Therefore, I am imploring our politicians to see it as a game in which a winner and loser must emerge after every match,†he counseled.
