The immediate past Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has said he will today formally declare his ambition to run for the national chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former governor is likely favoured to replace the outgoing Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, after he received the endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari.
With this, Oshiomhole is expected to slug it out with Odigie-Oyegun, a fellow Edo State indigene, if he intends to actually run for the chairmanship position.
Already, the APC had last Saturday commenced its ward congresses while the local government congresses is scheduled for May 12, 2018, just as the state congresses will hold on May 19, 2018, and the national convention scheduled for June 2018.
Some of the dignitaries expected at the event scheduled to hold in Abuja today include governors on the APC platform, President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; APC and National Assembly members among others.
Oshiomhole, who spoke to journalists on the issue in Benin City, the state capital, shortly before he departed for Abuja, said he was joining the chairmanship race with a view to contribute his quota to the growth of the party.
He said: “It is true that I intend to make my ambition known to our party members and Nigerians tomorrow (today). I strongly believe that with the experience I have gathered in my public life, having served as President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and governor of Edo State, I have what it takes to take our dear party, the ruling party, to the next level.â€
