Worried by the housing deficit in the country, the federal government Thursday appealed to the Kwara State Government to provide land to enable it complete the second phase of the 1,000 housing units designed for the state.

The government also summoned the contractor handling Michael Imoudu Way, along Offa- Garage road, Ilorin to Abuja to explain the delay over the completion of the road project.
The Minister of State for Works, Power and Housing, Alhaji Suleiman Hassan, made the appeal in Ilorin during a courtesy call on Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed at the Government House, Ilorin after the inspection tour of the federal government projects in the North-central zone of the country.
He inspected Kabba road, Ilorin road, Offa bye pass, and Ajase Ipo-Offa road, among others, which he expressed satisfaction except the one opposite Michael Imoudu National Institute for labour studies along Ajase Ipo road, Ilorin where he summoned the contractor to Abuja.
According to him, “We have cluster of houses here in Kwara about 1,000 housing units and we are almost through with the compensation.”
He said: “We are moving to the second phase and we are appealing to the Kwara State government to provide land to enable us complete them in good time.
“We are happy about the progress of the works except the one opposites MINILS which I was told is after your heart, your excellency,” he said.
He also expressed satisfaction over the level of completion of the transmission station in Kabba which he said when completed would ensure regular power supply to residents in both Kwara and Kogi States.
In his speech, Governor Ahmed appealed to the federal government to hasten the completion of Kishi-Kaiama road in order to ease transport of farm produce to the markets across the nation, saying that the immediate completion of the road became necessary for the benefit of farmers and other citizens.
Ahmed added that his administration will continue to synergise with the federal government and make an appeal for a quick refund of the state government’s intervention fund on federal projects in the state.
He also pledged to assist in compensating those affected by the Offa bye-pass road project in oder to facilitate early completion of the project, adding that his administration would make land available for the construction of federal housing unit in the state as requested by the federal government.
