Five Suspected Cultists Kill Cigarette Trader

Palpable tension on Monday night gripped the residents of Gaa Akanbi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, following the killing of a cigarette seller in the area by a five-member gang of suspected cultists.
In the ensuing melee, THISDAY investigations revealed that the residents of the area scampered for safety as a result of gunshots that rented the air after the killing of the cigarette merchant.
It was gathered that some of the residents of the area deserted their homes over the development, even as the police were reportedly combing the area searching for the suspects.
The cigarette merchant popularly called MM, according to THISDAY checks, who was shot in the head by one of the suspected gang members died instantly.
It was further learnt that members of the gang had approached the cigarette shop to buy cigarette, but were told that it was not available.
One of the suspected cult gang however pointed to the cigarette in the shop, which MM replied had already been bought and paid for.
The victim was said to have further told the suspected cultists that the owner of the cigarette was even on his way to collect the pack of cigarette.
At this point, one of the cultists, who was said to be more desperate about the cigarette, got angry and reportedly shot the cigarette merchant in the head.
It was gathered that as MM was lying dead in the pool of his own blood, the gang member who killed him, went inside the shop, took the cigarette pack and they all fled the scene.
When contacted, the spokesman of the state Police Command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi,  confirmed the incident.
According to him, “I learnt that there was a killing in Gaa Akanbi area yesterday (Monday) night, but we are still investigating the incident.”
