Troops of the 22 Brigade, Borno State yesterday rescued about 1000 hostages captured by Boko Haram terrorists.
The rescue of the hostages was as a result of the combined efforts of troops in the North East, where the military had continued to engage Boko Haram terrorists.
Director of Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu, told THISDAY that, “the operation to rescue hostages captured by Boko Haram started on the 28th April, 2018.”
He explained that hostages were kept by the terrorists in different locations in Borno State and other parts of the North East.
Chukwu had earlier in a statement stated that the “troops of 22 Brigade deployed in Operation Lafiya Dole rescued over 1000 hostages from the Boko Haram Terrorists enclave.
“The operation which was conducted in conjunction with allies of Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), rescued the hostages from  Malamkari, Amchaka, Walasa and Gora villages of Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
“The hostages consisted mainly of women, children as well as some young men who were forced to become Boko Haram fighters.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to remind the public of its resolve to rout out Boko Haram and rescue all hostages.
“The public is also advised to  report any suspicious character to the appropriate authority for prompt action. However, the rescued persons are being attended to in a military medical facility. “
