The Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Friday disclosed that no fewer 7.6 million children in 22 states were being fed daily under the National Home Grown School Feeding Program (NHGSFP).

Osinbajo said  this in Akure, Ondo State capital during an inspection and interactive session with beneficiaries of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) and N-Power Programme at Alagbaka Estate Primary School.

The inspection of the feeding programme was part of the vice president’s two day itinerary in the state and during which he also launched the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

He explained that the purpose of the programme was to ensure that children were, at least fed one very good meal every day in public primary schools across the country.

The vice president, who had lunch with the pupils, added that the meal would improve the children’s health, boost farming and create job opportunities for Nigerians.

“I have tasted the food myself and I think is the quite nice,” he said.

Osinbajo also revealed that another 300,000 Nigerian youths were to be engaged in the N- Power program in addition to the existing 200,000 graduates.

He described the N-Power programme as a very compelling testimony.

“I have seen firsthand what the N-Power teachers were doing in the classroom, teaching using tablets. I was able to see it for myself and also use it in teaching the pupils.

“As you know, in the programme, each of the teachers has a tablet which contains materials for teaching and I wanted to see in particular how they used the tablets and the materials.

“I think it’s a very revolutionary thing. First of all, these young men and women who have volunteered under the programme.

“And also the fact that we have been able to put all our teaching materials on a tablet which can be easily used by the teachers,” he said.

Earlier, the Headmistress of Alagbaka Estate Primary School, Mrs. Grace Ekpemogu, commended the Federal Government over the NHGSFP which she said would guarantee the pupils one good meal a day.

She said the programme would help increase the intelligence quotient of the pupils and also go a long way in repositioning the education sector especially at the primary school level.

Osinbajo also inspected the Pilot scheme of the special intervention In energizing markets as productive clusters at Isinkan Market, Akure.
