Senator Dino Melaye has been brought by the Nigeria Police to Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, where he will be arraigned Thursday for allegations bordering on the illegal possession of prohibited firearms, among other charges.
Melaye was brought in on a stretcher to a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lokoja, amidst tight security.
It is uncertain if the embattled senator will be granted bail immediately, but he has maintained his innocence, stating that his travails are politically motivated.
Melaye has been engaged in a running battle with his state governor, Yahaya Bello, for several months.
