The federal government has said it was shocked and outraged by the suicide bomb attacks on a mosque and a market in Mubi, Adamawa State, on Tuesday, describing it as desecration of a place of worship by criminals.
Consequently, it said it had ordered security agencies to beef up security in markets and worship centres.
Reacting to the incident, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, who described the episode as tragic and condemnable, expressed his condolences to families of the victims as well as the government and people of Adamawa State.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, the vice-president said he had been in touch with the state governor, Bindow Jibrilla, and had equally directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ensure speedy and adequate provision of medical supplies and relief materials to the victims.
He also said the federal government was grateful to workers and medical personnel who attended to victims of the blast, adding that security agencies had been directed to immediately beef up security in Mubi and its environs, especially markets and places of worship.
He added that the agencies were also working to apprehend the criminals behind this act and bring them to justice.
