FG Flags off School Audits for Improved Basic Education

The Federal Government has commenced the auditing of all public and private schools in Nigeria towards improved quality of basic education.
The Minister of Education, Mal. Adamu Adamu, at the official flag-off of the 2018 National Personnel Audit(NPA) in Abuja yesterday, asured Nigerians of improved quality basic education for all, in both public and private sectors.
According to him: “ The key success of the exercise lies in having reliable data for planning.

“The NPA will go a long way in establishing a strong foundation for the emergence of a sound Management Information System (MIS) within the Basic Education sector. It will also strengthen the current National Educational Management Information System (NEMIS) which serves as a key pillar of the nation’s educational planning architecture.”

The minister noted that the NPA exercise, which was carried out in 2006 and 2010 focused only on public schools, however the 2018 NPA will cover both public and private basic education institutions in the country
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Hamid Bobboyi,explained that in addition to having accurate and comprehensive data  for all education institutions, the outcome of the NPA will ensure a reliable database on pupils enrolment

Bobboyi said the exercise will help improve quality of the basic education and also,  provide Statistics on the number and quality of teaching and non teaching staff.
“It will also provide information on infrastructural availability as well as provide Statistics on the number of out of school children amongst others,” he added.

He  explained that data collected will provide the basis for the determination of some Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) same will have be imputed into the National data bank for global reporting in line with NEMIS.

“Tis is a national exercise, the result will go a long way in strengthening the basic education sub sector, let me emphasize that this exercise has no connection with auditing financial accounts of schools and educational establishments not for verifying salary payments and other expenditure,” the Executive Secretary stated.

The exercise which is in two phases begins on Monday,  April 30 and ends on May 26, 2018. The first phase will cover South East, South South and South West, while the second phase will take off 3rd to 26th June 2018 in the northern part of the country.
