PwC Chess4Change Mentorship Ends 

It was glitz and glamour at the 2018 edition of the PwC Chess4Change mentorship programme for secondary schools in Lagos State.
The two-day programme featured 18 schools, it was hosted at Wahab Folawiyo High School, Ikoyi and Immaculate Heart Comprehensive Secondary School, Maryland, Lagos.
During the mentorship programme, representatives of PwC spoke to the students on several career topics that will equip them with the requisite knowledge and skills to thrive in their academics and post-secondary school.
Speaking on the successes of this year’s edition, the Chief Operating Officer, MediaVision Ltd, Mr. Jimmy Sogbesan stated that the mentorship programme would go a long way in developing the students intellectually while preparing them for the future.
“I would like to emphasise that this programme was designed to improve critical thinking and problem-solving skills among secondary school students in Lagos State using the game of chess.”
Meanwhile, the 18 schools in the programme took part in a mini-challenge where students’ abilities in the game was assessed as they prepare for the Grand Slam Tournament in May.
Chess4Change is sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC); one of the world’s leading audit and advisory firms and supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Lagos State Sports Commission and the Lagos State Chess Association.

Korblah, Eze Win Maiden Radix Pension Classics
Ghanaian professional golfer, Emos  Korblah  stole the show over the weekend as he emerged winner of the maiden edition of Radix Pension Managers Golf Championship which held at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938, between April 18th and 21st.
Korblah, who participated at the last edition of the British Open Senior Tour competition, closed with a 68, for 2-under par-211, over 56-holes, to beat the second placed Sunday Olapade, from MicCom Golf Club Ada by three-shots.
Korblah began the game with an opening 70, recorded a second day score of 73 before the closing 68, to push one of the tournament favorites, Olapade to the second position, while Christian Francis ducked in the third position.
Olapade opened his game with an opening 73, second day score of 69 and closed with 71 to lose the title. Francis carded an opening 72, signed for second days 73 and closed with 1-under 70 this come third.
Ikoyi Club based Monday Eze; two-time Lagos amateur Open Champion, won in the Category-One amateur Cadre.
Satisfied with the turnout and spirit of sportsmanship displayed throughout the competition, the Managing Director of Radix Pension Managers, Kunle Adeboye pledged the company’s continuous support for the sport saying, his company shared the values and qualities for which the sport was noted for.
While urging everyone present to buy into the outfits pension scheme, he said the desire of the agency was to ensure that even on retirement, golfers should still be able to maintain their lifestyle.
Head of the competition Organising Committee, Barin Epega, who thanked all for honouring the invitation to be part of the event, described the competition as a good start, adding that the next edition would be better.

Heineken Treats Fans to Exclusive Viewing of UCL Semis
Official sponsor of the UEFA Champions League, Heineken, treated football fans in Lagos and Abuja in its usual tradition to an exclusive viewing of the first leg, semi-final match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at Ember Creek, Landmark, VI, Lagos and Tak Klub House, Tak Continental, Abuja last Wednesday.
The much anticipated clash between the most successful German club in football history, Bayern Munich and the Spanish side Real Madrid was watched by hundreds of excited football fans who were kept spell bound by the drama on screen.
Football fans had access to a variety of recreational games to keep busy as well as quizzes, contests and giveaways during the halftime break.
A dramatic night of top class football ended on a high for fans, both in Lagos and Abuja, and sets up delightful expectations for the second semi-final leg of UEFA Champions League games to be broadcast live at Heineken’s exclusive viewing centres in Lagos and Port Harcourt on May 1 and 2nd.
