Ambode Approves Contract Coaches for Lagos


T he Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the appointment of 40 contract coaches for 33 sports in the state.
The coaches,  who will be working under direct supervision of the Lagos State Sports Commission, will oversee the following sports; abula, athletics, ayo, badminton, baseball and softball, boxing, chess, cricket, cycling, dart, deaf athletics, deaf table tennis, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, karate, kick boxing, langa, para athletics, Para powerlifting, para soccer, para table tennis.
Others are; rowing and canoe, shooting, swimming, squash, taekwondo, table tennis, tennis, wrestling, wushu kungfu.
The appointment of the contract coaches take immediate effect.

The Director General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Babatunde Bank-Anthony stated that the appointment will assist the state  in the preparation for national sporting events such as the National Youths Games slated for Ilorin, Kwara State in September, National Sports Festival in Abuja scheduled for November and others.
Also, the governor has approved and released training grants to all  para sports  athletes in the state.

While commending the governor for the gesture extended to physically challenged athletes, the Director General noted that Ambode’s action showed the all-inclusiveness of the present administration that all athletes are important.
He said that the governor has vowed not to relent at ensuring that Lagos becomes a sporting hub in Africa. He charged the athletes to reciprocate the governor’s action to double up their effort in making the state proud in any competitions they compete in.
