Nasarawa Killings: Tiv, Fulani Sign Peace Pact

The Tiv and Fulani communities in Nasarawa State thursday signed a peace pact to end the ongoing killings in the southern senatorial zone of the state.

The pact was signed by a Joint Peace Committee of Tiv and Fulani in Lafia.
Speaking to journalists shortly after signing the peace pact, Nasarawa State chairman of Miyetty Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Mohammed Hussaini, said the peace pact was aimed at bringing to an end to the killings in Nasarawa State.

According to Hussaini, “the two groups have agreed to stay in peace with each other in their communities. They do not need any security to enforce any peace.”
He consequently advised the Fulani people in the state not to take the laws into their hands, but report any provocative act to their leaders for onward action.

Also, President of Tiv Development Association in Nasarawa State, Boniface Ifer, said the Tiv people in Nasarawa State are willing to stay in peace with the Fulani people.

He however appealed to the Fulani people not to transfer aggression of the implementation of the anti open-grazing law in Benue State to the Tiv people in Nasarawa State.

He said: “The Tiv people are fully committed to ensuring peace and have promised to expose bad elements among them.”
Similarly, Ardo Lawal Dano, Nasarawa State Chairman of forum of Ardos in Nasarawa said the Fulanis are equally committed towards given peace a chance.
