ENIC League Getting Bigger, Better, Says Uduh

Tennis enthusiasts have been promised a bigger and better packaged East of the Niger Inter-Club (ENIC) Tennis League next year as it attracts more quality players.

The President of ENIC, Chief Kingsley Uduh, said the philosophy behind the regional league is attracting more interest among lovers of the games and corporate organisations.

According to him, the quality of the games and glamorous organisation of the recently-concluded 19th edition of the ENIC League in Calabar was indicative of a greater future for the event.

“Every edition of the ENIC league has been a wonderful experience. It assumes greater dimension every year. What used to be a one-day event is now a three-day exciting tennis fiesta.

“We have made massive progress in ENIC and I would like to say it has been so far so good. Everyone is happy to come together for these days and bond. We have ten states in the East of the Niger that are involved in ENIC and you know what that means in terms of unity and economic activities.

“It is worthy of note that the event has helped in building friendship and business network amongst participants across the member clubs in the South- East and South-South regions of the country over the years, said Uduh.

According to him, the league has offered participating clubs a platform to bond in friendship which is only peculiar to the game of tennis.

The 2018 edition of the tournament kicked-off with four teams, Standard Tennis Development Club (STDC) Owerri, Orlu Recreation Club, Onitsha Sports Club and Calabar Sports Club. STDC Owerri and Orlu Recreational Club qualified for the finals.

Mr Uduh commended Cutix Plc for sustaining its commitment to the development of the project for 19 years.

“Cutix Plc has been sponsoring this league for over 18 years and we owe the company so much appreciation. We are happy that other sponsors have joined the fray including Tetralog and Eco Bank.

“The founder of ENIC, Chief Austin Agbaje has been very supportive. I am very happy with the success of this year’s league in which Orlu Recreation Club emerged champions after winning three of the five games of two singles, two doubles and one veteran fixture.

The Chief Executive Officer of Cutix Plc, Mr. Ifeanyi Uzodike, who was represented at the event by the General Manager of the company, Mr. Nwosu Chima, noted that the company had been involved in the sponsorship of ENIC for 19 years and was happy with the improvement year after year.

He said he was encouraged to see other corporate sponsors coming in to be part of the success story of ENIC. He talked about the junior league which will be coming up in the month of September this year and said that Cutix as a company believes in the development of sports in Nigeria.
