NPFL: Lobi Stays Top as Ifeanyiubah’s Kone Sinks Plateau Utd

Lobi Stars consolidated their leadership of the NPFL after they came from behind to beat Rivers United 3-2, while Yaya Kone fired a hat-trick for FC Ifeanyiubah to drub champions Plateau United 3-0.

Lobi Stars now have 26 points from 16 matches.

Closest rivals Akwa United could only draw 1-1 at home with Abia Warriors, while Kano Pillars fell 2-1 at bottom club Kwara United even after striker Junior Lokosa put them ahead with his 12th goal of the season.

But the individual performance of the day will belong to Yaya Kone, who scored thrice to sink champions Plateau United.

It was the sixth loss of the season for the defending champions, who lost a penalty through Tosin Omoyele in the closing moments of the game.

Despite Destiny Ashadi controlling the midfield and Katsina United scoring first, ‘The Changi Boys’ still fell 2-1 at MFM FC, while Yobe Desert Stars dropped their first points at home this season after they forced Enyimba to a 1-1 draw.

There were also home wins for Heartland, Wikki Tourists and Niger Tornadoes, while hosts Go Round FC held Enugu Rangers to a 2-2 draw.

A total of 29 goals were scored today – the highest tally this season – with seven home wins and three draws.
