Imparting Vocational Skills

God Ever True Vocational Training Institute (GET V.T.I), a faith-based non-governmental organisation based in Ondo State, has graduated 14 students after months of training. The graduation and exhibition ceremony which took place recently was held at the Institute’s premises at Oduduwa Street, Ondo, Ondo State. Nine students graduated from the School of Fashion, and five from the School of Catering.

The registrar and founder of the Institute, Mrs. Adesola Adeosun, in her address congratulated the students and urged them to strive for excellence as they go out to practice their trade. She stated that the Vocational Institute has only impacted into them the basics, and advised them to seek for more knowledge. “All you have learnt here are just the basics. They can help you to start a life. But I encourage you not to limit yourself to what you have learnt here. There’s still so much to learn. Let excellence be your watchword,” she said.

In his speech, the Chairman of the event and Public Relations Officer of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, Venerable Olusola Akinfolarin, admonished the graduating students to embrace Information Communication Technology. He underscored the importance of technology in their everyday life. “It is no longer fashionable to be ignorant of the roles of technology. If you choose to rely only on what you have learnt during your training here, you will soon be lagging behind. You must constantly be a learner, so that you can be aware of the changes in the industries and become active and valuable members of the society, especially in your field of endeavour,” he advised.

He urged everyone to embrace vocational education because white collar jobs are no longer available for the teeming graduates that are being churned out every year by universities, polytechnics and monotechnics.

The students’ representative, Fadekemi Adeyanju, in her remarks, was full of appreciation to the registrar and teachers for their support throughout the duration of the programme. She expressed optimism that the teachers would continue to be accessible after the programme. “I hope that you will still be willing to offer advice and help us when needed because we know that it will be so much easier with all of you by our side,” she said.

The vocational training institute is committed to empowering school leavers, housewives, graduates and others who are in search of vocational skills, offering courses such as fashion design, catering, make over and bead making.
