A new TV station, Mango TV, which focuses on children friendly content from an African narrative point of view will be launched soon. Owned by Mango Media, Mango TV will be the first dedicated Children’s Television Channel on the African continent with its programming aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 16.
The new TV station will see the emergence of a carefully created African Children’s TV Channel that will not only entertain African children, but also educate the African child using examples, characters and stories that they can relate to.
This according to its management is necessary due to the vital need that the African Child is exposed to ‘Afro-Centric’ programmes, which entertain and educate, the result of which will manifest in a more informed, educated, open-minded, confident and empowered adult.
Hence, Mango TV content will be made primarily in Nigeria, thus employing young presenters and actors, while creating much needed work for professionals within the various disciplines of the Nigerian Creative Industries while it also invest in Nigerian and African Culture.
Mango Television and Production Company Limited is a special purpose vehicle founded by highly experienced business, media management, production and marketing experts. The company directors are Francis Ogboro, Biola Alabi, Ali Safieddine, Hadi Safieddine and Carl Raccah.
The administrative arm of the company will launch out of Nigeria from a management and content creation standpoint, which will be known as Mango Media, while the channel will be known as Mango TV. Its programming is broad and includes stories, quiz shows, African tales, cooking shows, Agony Aunt Discussions, culture and science documentaries, music and much more with a mission is to educate, entertain and empower African children while promoting African culture, religious tolerance, gender equality and geographical acceptance.
Some of the TV’s content currently on its YouTube channel include a children’s anthem rendered by a couple of Nigerian kids, as well as animated stories like ‘How The Zebra Got Its Stripes’, ‘Ani Owo’, narrated by actress, Dakore Egbuson Akande as well as ‘The Old Warrior’, narrated by comedian and actor, Bovi Ugbomah. Mango TV will announce the Channel’s official launch date at the formal press conference that will take place soon.
