Nasarawa Slates LG Elections for May 26

The Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has slated May 26, 2018 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.

The acting Chairman of the state electoral commission, Aliyu Mohammad Dogara, disclosed this in a statement he issued to journalists yesterday in Lafia.

Dogara said: “NASIEC by virtue of the law establishing it and, pursuant to paragraph 3 part II of the third schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), has concluded arrangements to hold its local government elections for the state on May 26, 2018.”

According to the NASIEC acting chairman, “all political parties are hereby requested to commence preparations for the said elections while arrangements are being made by the commission to invite the political parties for a meeting.”

Consequently, the NASIEC boss said the collection and submission of forms by candidates and political parties shall be at the commission’s headquarters in Lafia.
Dogara however concluded that a comprehensive time table leading to the said elections would soon be made available to all the political parties and the public.
