As the Bayelsa State Governor, Mr. Seriake Dickson, receives the Silverbird Television award as the best performing state governor in Nigeria in the education sector, a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Timi Alaibe, has commended the governor, saying it was well deserved.

Alaibe said given Dickson’s propensity for hard work, and the huge investments he had made in the last six years in the state’s education sector, the governor merited the honour.

He said as a result of the governor’s efforts, the state was no longer classified among educationally disadvantaged states in the country

In a statement in Abuja thursday Alaibe said he was particularly delighted that under Dickson, Bayelsa had become one of the best performing states in public examinations.

He said: “I am particularly delighted that owing to your doggedness, visionary leadership and exemplary focus on education, Bayelsa State is now ranked among the best-performing states in the country’s public examinations, culminating in the de-classifying of Bayelsa as an educationally disadvantaged state in the federation.

“I am truly pleased by the fact that the Silverbird Group took full cognizance of this and elected to honour you on this score.”

Alaibe also praised Dickson’s implementation of a free and compulsory primary and post-primary education policy in the state.

“I also deem as profound and laudable, your administration’s establishments of the Ijaw National Academy and the University of Africa, Toru-Orua,” he said, adding: “I have been informed that these are respectively, highly rated secondary and tertiary institutions that were conceived to meet the special educational needs of the State. These innovations are truly commendable.”

Dickson is slated to be conferred today, at an event in Lagos, with the award of the best performing Governor in the education sector by Silverbird Television Group.
