DPR Seals off Illegal, Erring Fuel Stations in Plateau

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) Thursday swooped on unsuspecting filling stations across the three senatorial zones of Plateau State sealing off illegal stations and others involved in sharp practices such as hoarding, selling above official pump price of N145 per litre and inordinate licensing/lack of proper records.

Speaking during the operation, the Head, Downstream Monitoring and Regulation (DMR) of DPR, Mr. Amodu Fagge, who led the raid, warned the marketers sabotaging government’s efforts to desist forthwith and join hands with the government in developing the oil sector and the nation’s economy by extension, as DPR will not give them a rest until they are prosecuted.

Fagge said: “Some of the filling stations we sealed in Jos South and Mangu Local Government areas were operating illegally without licence, while others were engaged in hoarding or adjustment of their pumps in order to sell beyond the usual pump price of N145 per litre.”

On the illegal stations, he added: “In our records and register, we don’t know of their operations. We stopped their operations by sealing their filling stations and then asked them to come to our office to let them know what guidelines they have to follow to operate as a station.

“We do this operation routinely, and we have a roaster which we follow to check up on all the stations across all the nooks and crannies of the state. We now do it in phases and those areas we don’t touch regularly, we will be touching them henceforth so that every corner of the state can feel the impact of our operations. This will also ease out all the tensions around hoarding/scarcity and fuel queues, thereby restoring confidence in the motorists and other fuel users.”
