Former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd), was wednesday grilled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the arms procured by the Office of the National Security Adviser during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ihejirika was COAS between 2010 and 2014 during the Jonathan’s administration and was part of the military top brass that oversaw the use of $2.1 billion arms funds under the supervision of Col. Sambo Dasuki, the then National Security Adviser (NSA).
Ihejirika was said to have arrived the EFCC in the morning yesterday where he was interrogated for his role in the diversion of the arms funds.
The former COAS was alleged to have used his family members in the award of contracts for arms and other military hardware and ammunition.
Speaking with THISDAY, an EFCC source explained that “Ihejireka arrived in the morning and was ushered in for interrogation.
“He was later released after the interrogation and will return tomorrow (today) for further interrogation.â€
Ihejirika joined other senior military officers and service chiefs under the Jonathan government under investigation by the EFCC over their role in the illicit arms deal.
