Court Jails Two for Stealing Cable Wire, Handset

An Oredo Magistrate Court has sentenced one Tochukwu Nwachukwu to two years imprisonment for stealing a cable wire and a Tiger Generator both valued at N168,000.

The court also jailed one Oladimeji Mohammed (22) for six months imprisonment for stealing a Samsung handset worth N40,000.
Tochukwu was jailed after he pleaded guilty to all the four count charges preferred against him.

He was said to have committed the offense on February 1st at number 42 Wire Road in Benin City.
His co-accused, Emmanuel Felix and Samson Simeon, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded to prison custody.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Patrick Agbonifo, told the court that the offenses contravened sections 413, 390(9) and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State now applicable in Edo State.
Presiding Magistrate, F.E Akhere, slammed two years jail term on Tochukwu or an option of N40,000 fine.
On the other hand, Mohammed was arraigned on two count charges of conspiracy and stealing.

He committed the offense on June 2nd, 2017 at JBS estate off Sapele Road in Benin City.
Police Prosecutor, Patrick Agbonifo, informed the court that the offense is punishable under Sections 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol II Laws of the defunct Bendel State now applicable in Edo State.

Mohammed who pleaded not guilty to the charges was discharged in count one but convicted on charge two by Magistrate F.E Akhere.

The Magistrate however, said he should pay an option of N10,000 fine.
