The priest of St. Sylvester’s Catholic Parish, New Nyanya, in Nasarawa State, Rev. Fr. Soja Anyembugu, has sponsored the mass wedding of about 136 couples in Nasarawa State.

The parish priest disclosed this to journalists at the weekend during the matrimony of 83 couples in commemoration of his 10th priestly anniversary at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Akwanga, in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, “the gesture was extended to the people who do not marry in the church to enable them receive the sacrament of holy matrimony.”

He continued that the step would also enable those who did not marry in the church to get their marriage blessed in order to get more  blessings and favour from God and for the interest of peace.

“I have decided to celebrate my 10th priestly anniversary to sponsor mass wedding for people who indicated interest to have their marriage blessed in the church. As at February 3, 2018, I have sponsored 53  couples in St. Sylvester’s Catholic Church, New Nyanya. Today, I have sponsored 83 couples making a total of 136 couples to enable them get the sacrament of holy matrimony as well as to give them a sense of belonging,” he said.

Anyembugu therefore called on the couples to continue to be patient and tolerate one another for them to have a peaceful home, even as he added that marriage is all about endurance and patience.

Earlier, Prof. Cletus Gotan, Vicar General of the Jos Catholic Archdiocese, who was the guest preacher at the occasion called on the couples to live peacefully with one another in order to inherit the kingdom of God.

The vicar general then called on the newly wedded couples, and indeed Nigerians, to show love and live in unity with one another in the interest of development.
