The Sunshine in Winter

When the trio of Seun Adigun, Akuoma Omeoga and Ngozi Onwumere set out to chase their dreams of competing at the Winter Olympics 2018, they wouldn’t have ever imagined that their sporting adventure would come under such an incredible global spotlight as it has.

The America-based Nigerians had attempted the unusual from the outset which actually made their mission almost impossible. They went for a sporting activity with no history in Nigeria and Africa as a whole – Bobsleighing.

They had no funds for training, equipment and traveling amongst other necessities that would prepare them for serious competition.

But something changed after pushing their resolve beyond imagination. The highly driven ladies that were previously training with a makeshift wooden equipment and soliciting for financial support through GoFundMe became the darlings of big brands and corporate sponsors.

Swiftly, global media trailed them with coverage on CNN and the Ellen DeGeneres show to mention a few. And rightly so, afterall, they are the first bobsled team from Nigeria and the whole of Africa to grace the Winter Olympics.
Little wonder they brought sunshine to the opening ceremony of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea with their spetacular parade that got the world talking. They are indeed a pride of Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
