Lagos Dissolves Boards of State Sports Associations 

The Lagos State Governor Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode,  has approved with immediate effect, the dissolution of the 36 State Sport Associations excluding the State Football Association under the supervision of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

The dissolution, according to the Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission, Dr. Kweku Tandoh,  becomes necessary to enable the state government to rejig and reposition the activities of all the sports associations in line with the vision of the state becoming the sports hub of Africa. The sporting associations which boards were dissolved are athletics, badminton, baseball, boxing, cricket, cycling, chess and darts.
Other are, fives, football, gymnastics, handball, hockey, judo, karate, Kick-boxing, kung fu, tennis, rugby, rowing and yachting, scrabble and shooting. Also included are, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tug of war, weightlifting, wrestling, volley-ball, golf, deaf sports, para sports, traditional sports, triathlon and sports medicine.

Tandoh, on behalf of the Lagos State Government commended and thanked the chairmen and members of the dissolved boards for their dedication and the voluntary services rendered towards the development of sports at the grassroots in Lagos State.

It would be recalled that the present boards of the 36 state sports associations were reconstituted in 2012 and their tenure had expired since 2016.

Yellow House Tops Beehive School Inter-house Sports

Yellow House has successfully defended its position as the best house in Beehive School as it emerged champions of the school’s 2018 inter-house sports competition for the second year in a row.
The house topped with a total of 28 medals consisting of 12 gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals.
Red House came second with 29 medals made up of 11 gold, seven silver and 11 bronze medals while Blue House was third with six gold, 12 silver and five bronze medals, while Green House was fourth with 22 medals -five gold, five silver and 12 bronze medals.
The event, which was held at the school’s newly constructed sports arena, witnessed a large turnout of parents, invited guests and pupils from schools around the Ikeja environs, who participated in the schools invitational relays.

Pupils took part in various track and field events such as the 25 metres and 50 metres race for the nursery section while the primary pupils took part in the 100metres and relay races, high jump, sack race and filling the basket event.
There were also field events like high jump, long jump and taekwondo demonstration by the children.

Speaking at the event, the school’s PTA chairperson, Mrs. Bridget Elesin said, “Watching our children compete and have fun brings us the true joy of learning that education goes beyond just reading. Thanks to the proprietress, Mrs. Latifat Dosunmu and Beehive management for providing the facilities and developing sporting programmes that our kids enjoy being part of.”

Speaking at the event, the proprietress Beehive School, Dosunmu restated her commitment to developing well-rounded children that can compete with their peers globally and promised investment in facilities to ensure that the pupils can develop their potentials to the fullest.
