Ex-NERC Boss, Sam Amadi Declares for 2019 Governorship

• Promises to Rebuild Imo

Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), Dr, Sam Amadi, has declared interest to run for the Imo State governorship race for 2019, with a promise to rebuild a strong and enduring foundations for the state.

The Ngor Okpala-born technocrat believed that since the administration of Chief Sam Mbakwe from 1979 to 1983, the state has been so unlucky to have a governor that had the interest of the people at heart, stating “Imo has been bedeviled with dishonest, corrupt and incompetent leadership. We have been so unlucky. All those who have come after Dee Sam have been hawks and foxes; they were not shepherds.”
He maintained that the state had also Imo suffered much deprivation, brutalisation and dehumanization, especially in the hands of the present governor, Chief Rochas Okorocha, who not only betrayed of hope the Imo people but destroyed their means livelihood.

“It is true that Governor Okorocha has raised fakery and incompetence to a high art and foisted a state of impunity and wanton corruption in Imo State.”
According to him, “Imo needs a new politics. Politics will no longer be the preserve of a few businessmen and contractors. Politics will be a transparent process of empowering and mobilizing the people to improve their lives and social condition.

“This new politics will change the structure of political power in Imo State so that there will be true accountability. Accountability is not possible under this old politics where few individuals sit in their dark concave and decide which member of the gang becomes governor.
“Accountability is not a slogan. It is a relationship of trust and respect based on balance of power between the governor and the people. Accountability ensures that resources are deployed to improve the lives of the ordinary people.

“My commitment is to build a new army of honest, courageous and intelligent sons and daughters of Imo State who will fight to free the people from the strangling grip of poverty imposed on them by these conspirators. We are building a new politics in Imo; politics based on truth, righteousness and justice. This new politics structures power in a way that empowers the people to control those they elect into political offices. This accountability begins at the local council level and goes up to the state executive council level,” he said.

Amadi intends to pilot on a three-point Agenda for transforming the state; which radiates on prosperity, quality healthcare and human services, and accountability which transcend to 100 per cent open government

He said: “The New Imo Movement focuses on prosperity for every Imo man or woman, old and young. Prosperity means higher income for every person, productive work for all able-bodied men and women and quality healthcare and human services for the happiness of the people. The New Imo Movement believes that government exists to promote prosperity and happiness for the people. To achieve prosperity and happiness, the New Imo government must be totally accountable. It will be a 100 percent open government.”
