Ondo: Herdsmen Sack LG Secretariat

By James Sowole in Akure

Activities at the Akure South Local Government of Ondo State have been brought to a standstill following the sack of the council by cutlass-wielding herdsmen who invaded the local government secretariat.

The herdsmen numbering about 30  invaded the council secretariat from the back gate that leads to a swampy area being cultivated by some workers of the local government.

The crisis started when a council worker in the Agriculture Department of the council, named Simon Johnson resisted grazing on his vegetable farm behind the council secretariat.

As at the time of filling this report, workers of the council have fled their respective offices and vowed not to return until their security coulf be guaranteed.

The Commissioner of Police for the Ondo State command, Mr Gbenga Adeyanju, led men of his command to the secretariat to assess the situation.

Also, men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were also on ground to curtail the situation.
