Members of the defunct Congress for Progressives (CPC) in Sokoto State on Saturday pleaded with the National leader of the All Progressives Congress Bola Ahmed Tinubu to save the party from imminent disintegration.
The former APC governorship aspirant in the state, Prof. Muhammad Lawal Bashar, made the plea during a chat with journalists in Sokoto. He said the call on Tinubu became necessary so as to salvage the party from ultimate collapse.
Bashar commended President Muhammad Buhari for recognising the exigency to appoint a mediator to rescue the party from disintegration. According to him, the move would no doubt avert acrimony and division and strengthen the party ahead of 2019 presidential polls.
“We want to take advantage of this opportunity to lay our grievances to President Buhari through this channel with a view to having justice done to our plight,” he said.
The APC governorship aspirant decried marginalisation of defunct CPC members in the state. He noted that members of the defunct CPC made painstaking sacrifices in the electoral process that brought APC to victory in 2015, lamenting that they had been sidelined in the scheme of things in the party.
“We want to put on record that we are completely shut down from any of the party activities. We are never consulted in party matters and therefore, effectively ex-communicated from the party affairs in Sokoto.
“In fact, out of 69 elective offices and 88 political appointments to party members, only one appointment of special adviser was given to a member of defunct CPC,†he added.
