Armed Robbers, Child Traffickers, Cultists Arrested in A’Ibom

Thirty-nine hoodlums including armed robbery syndicate, child traffickers and cultists have been apprehended by the Police in Akwa Ibom State

Out of this number eighteen suspects within the age bracket of 18 and 35 were said to be members of a cult group “Klan Kulus Klub” (K.K.K).

Police in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, DSP Odiko Macdon said the culprits were arrested at a popular hotel in Uyo, the State Capital (name withheld) while in a meeting.

He explained that the arrest was made possible through a tip-off and a text message received on the phone of one of the suspects in under-going investigation in the police custody.

Macdon said on the receipt of the information, operatives from the Command swung into action and cordoned the premises of the said hotel and arrested all the suspects who were indigenes of the state.

The 18 suspected cultists arrested, he said had since confessed being members of the K.K.K. indicating that one locally made revolver pistol was recovered from them.

Also, through a credible intelligence, the PPRO said Police Command arrested seven suspects over child trafficking in the state.

The PPRO said one Eno Archibong Emah ‘f’ of Ikot Eman Itam in Itu LGA who gave birth to a baby boy on 12th November, 2017 conspired with one Emmanuel Akpabio Okon ‘m’ and Emem Asuquo Okon ‘f’ and sold the one-month old child to one Kate ‘f’ (surname and address unknown) of Aba, Abia State at the cost of N400, 000.00.

Operatives of the State Command were said to have monitored and promptly arrested the mother of the child who later led to the arrest of other accomplices in the illicit trade.

Others in the crime included, Utibe Sunday John ‘m’, Imo Ime Udoetuk ‘m’, Friday John Amiang ‘m’ and Uwana Ime ‘f’.

All the child traffickers were said to have confessed to the crime and their individual roles in the offence, including how the proceeds where shared amongst themselves and the culprits, accordingly arraigned in court to serve as deterrent to others.

Similar the Police spokesperson said following an intensive patrol by operatives of State Command four young men who robbed innocent persons along Nwanaiba road, Uyo were arrested and Nissan Xtera jeep used for the operation recovered from them with different plat numbers.
