Lagos Initiates Online Platform to Boost Ease of Doing Business

The Lagos State Government has unveiled an electronic real estate litigation system, which it said would help improve Nigeria’s rating on the ease of doing business.

The state government added that the platform was equally designed to provide easy access to information to both indigenous and foreign investors with plan to procure real estate or property in the state.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem inaugurated the platform at the state secretariat, Alausa alongside the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Opeyemi Oke and Surveyor-General, Mr. Olutomi Sangowawa among others
Kazeem, represented by the Solicitor-General of the state, Mrs. Funmilola Odunlami at the inauguration explained the significance of the initiative, saying it was designed in line with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to use information technology to drive economic growth and development in Lagos State.

He noted that the Ambode administration remained committed to ensuring the safety of lives and interest in properties within the state, which he said, explained the rationale for the real estate litigation electronic system.

The attorney-general noted that he had to encourage the use of technology “to give access to effective and efficient justice system and keying into the bigger picture of the technologically driven megacity plan.

“An economically vibrant city possesses at least three fundamental capitals for its sustenance and growth. These are financial capital, human capital and real estate capital. The third form of capital is very significant.

“The real estate sector is one which records a very large turnover within the economy of the state, the enormous amount of applications that are delegated to my office for the statutory endorsement on various property transaction bear witness to this fact,” he said.
He explained that with the vision of becoming the largest economy in Africa, it was expected that the level of economic and commercial activities in Lagos State would experience an unprecedented height.

He said the initiative was conceived “to ensure that the citizens of Lagos State are better served. It is now being delivered as another promise kept for a better Lagos for all. We have been working endlessly to ensure that Lagos is not left in the dark ages.”
He noted that the vision explained why several initiatives and steps “are being taken to make Lagos State as technologically driven as possible.”

He said the project has been designed in line with the administration’s drive to promote information technology in the state, thereby calling real estate practitioners “to buy into this initiative, embrace it and share our vision of a new Lagos.”
He noted that the real estate litigation system was designed “to provide members of the public with information on pending court cases; notify the public about real estate or property subject to litigation and ensure that professional bodies are able to conduct an efficient search of real estate or property.

He added that the initiative would curtail risk associated with property transactions; reduce litigation on real estate; enhance due diligence in property transactions; provide comprehensive data base of real estate and allow the public to upload their cases pending in courts.
