The 2017 One Lagos Fiesta has come and gone. The yuletide musical festival was held in various centres in Lagos like Ikeja (Agege Stadium), Badagry (Badagry Grammar School), Epe (Marina Beachfront), Ikorodu (Ikorodu Town Hall) and Lagos Island (Bar Beach/Eko Atlantic City) were fired up as over 700 artists perform one after the other in over 40 concerts to thrill the large crowd at each of the centres and giving them a wow factor.
The theme of this edition was tagged “Feel and Explore Lagos” the 2017 edition of the fiesta brought about significant improvement on the 2016 edition which was also a bigger, bolder and better version compared to that of 2015 when Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode decided to escalate the hitherto countdown show which he inherited from the immediate-past administration of former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, now Minister of Power, Works and Housing.
The idea to scale up the show and christen it One Lagos Fiesta, according to Governor Ambode, was part of the programmes of his administration known as Project THESE meaning Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sports for Excellence, and same was designed to support the creative industry thereby creating jobs and growing the economy of the State and the country.
At each of the centres, several music legends, reigning stars as well as up and coming artists, performed in successive fashion erasing any dull moment and subjecting the people to a swell time throughout the duration of the shows. The stars included Tuface, Paul Play Dairo, Wizkid, Davido, Olamide, Adewale Ayuba, Salawa Abeni, Falze, Simi, Adekunle Gold, Small Doctor, Pasuma, Humble Smith, Ras Kimono, Saheed Osupa, Valentine, Iceprince, Lanre Teriba (Atorise), among others too numerous to mention.
According the Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Aramide Giwanson “The OLF, was specially designed to turn the five divisions of Lagos into a tourist destination for 8 days non-stop showcasing not less than 40 concerts all together across the city of Lagos while developing the local economy of these areas thereby making it self-sustaining during the festive period and after”
The then Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde said not only is this remarkable development in tandem with the vision of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to make Lagos the creative nerve-centre in Africa, but also to assure corporate sponsors and tourists that the State security and social infrastructure can support the ever-growing creative economy landscape.
Lagosians has so much and each night of the concerts was a night to remember and these are some of the guests at the events and the artists who performed.
