In line with its determination to educate the masses and spread literacy particularly among youths and women, so as to bring about a sustainable change in the society, a non-profit charitable organisation, called HRH Appolus Chu Foundation (HACF), during the week disbursed scholarship fund of N400, 000 each to 15 university students. The disbursement of funds to the beneficiaries of the new phase of foundation scholarship, which took place at the conference hall of the founder’s office in Eleme, Rivers State, the sponsor, HRH Chief Appolus Chu said it was to assist in payment of school fees of the beneficiaries as schools resume for new session.

Decked in white T-shirts and pair of jeans, the beneficiaries took turns to receive their cheques personally from HRH Chu during the brief meeting.

The Foundation so far has empowered over 700 people in various capacities. Since 2011, the Foundation has been making a marked difference in the lives of indigent youths, women, and men of Okori in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. Many have been trained in different skills after which they received start-up packs to enable them begin their trades and crafts. The Foundation has given over a thousand computers, laptops and other office gadgets to such SME start-ups to enable them begin their trades and crafts.

This laudable gesture of HRH Appolus Chu is built on the premise that a seed sown today can become a mighty tree with bountiful fruits tomorrow, hence the foundations’ motto: “From Today’s Seeds …”

The Foundation is not limited to the Founder’s community but extends its humanitarian gesture to the international domains. HRH Appolus Chu Foundation can therefore be described as an international humanitarian agency dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the less-privileged.

The Foundation, according to its founder, envisions a world of opportunity where educated minds and skilful hands work together to uplift the next generation, breaking cycle of poverty.

The Foundation is also open for partnerships with like minds to execute projects that are beneficial to the society with the aim to reposition the less opportune in the society to function at full capacity and contribute meaningfully to the development of the society through a consistent assistance to the people.

The Foundation, whose largest beneficiaries have been those on its educational scholarship scheme, has over the years sponsored a good number of students in the tertiary institutions. It has been the Foundation’s practice to offer educational scholarship to deserving students with financial hardship pursuing undergraduate programmes in various disciplines in Nigerian universities. To this end, many sons and daughters of Okori whose academic dreams and aspirations would have died stillbirths because of lack of finance have seen their dreams blossomed. Thanks to HRH Appolus Chu and his foundation that have stood solidly behind them from the commencement of their university education to graduation.

It also has a vision to focus towards a future of self-employment with the hope of breaking the cycle of dependency while giving immediate assistance to families within and outside its environs.
