Club Fetes the Elderly -The elderly cutting Christmas cake during a previuos vintage party

It was a celebration of love last December when Viva L’Amour Lions Club held its annual vintage party for the elderly, at Catholic Church of Presentation, G.R.A, Ikeja.

The ambience was quite captivating as the event saw the elderly from St. Theresa Catholic Church, Ifako Agege; Regina Mundi Home for the Elderly, Mushin; Archbishop Vining Memorial Anglican Church, Ikeja; St. Leo Catholic Church, Ikeja; Catholic Church of Presentation, Ikeja; St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, Surulere; St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland; and St. Timothy Catholic Church, Ojodu.

The chairperson, Lion Agnes Duke, stated that charity is one of the major objectives of the Lions Club International, and in line with this, all Lions clubs perform different kinds of charity activities monthly in the communities in which they reside.

She said: “In Ikeja Viva L’Amour Lions Club, we celebrate annual vintage party with the elderly in order to make the senior citizens happy and feel the joy of Christmas. There are about a hundred senior citizens from Regina Mundi Old People’s Home and other Churches in different parts of Lagos, all dressed in clothes made for them by the club.”

She said, urging other organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the Lions Club in reaching out to the needy and less-privileged in order to make the world a better place.

The event also featured other interesting activities such as riddles, jokes and dancing competitions amongst others to trill the audience. Cash prizes were won, and there was take home gifts as well.
