About 4,000 persons have received free medical services from medical experts under the aegis of Doctor on the Move Africa, a Non Governmental Organisation.
The NGO organizes a three-days free medical outreach in Lafia, the Nassarawa State Capita, targeting at over 4,000 residents.
Leader of the medical team, Dr. Joseph Kigbu, told journalists during the inauguration of
the outreach at the Primary Health Care centre located at Emir’s of Lafia Palace that the initiative was sponsored by the Federal Government to address the health challenges facing people in the area.
He explained that the medical outreach would include free screening and treatment of a wide range of illnesses such as diabetes, hernia, cataract, fibroid, hepatitis amongst others.
Kigbu continued that the patients would be given free drugs and reading glasses during the exercise.
” We have 30 specialist Doctors in various fields of medicine that would cater for the need of these patients free of charge. For instance, we have general surgeons, ophthalmologists, pharmacists and nurses participating in the exercise,” he said.
According to him, a similar outreach is on at Panda village in Karu Local Government Area of the state.”
Kigbu, who is a former member of the House of Representative representing Lafia/ Obi constituency, said the initiative was not politically motivated but a deliberate intervention aimed at improving the health of the people.
The Emir of Lafia, Isa Mustapha-Agwai I, lauded the federal government and the NGO for the intervention aimed at ameliorating the health plight of the less privileged in his domain.
