Four Burnt To Death in Ondo

Tragedy occurred yesterday in Ondo State as no fewer than four persons were reportedly burnt to death in a road accident that occurred on Benin-Lagos expressway at Omotoso town in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The accident according to a source involved a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number MNY 406 XA, heading towards Benin from Lagos with eight persons.

It was gathered that the accident occurred when one of the tyres of the vehicle burst while on high speed which made the vehicle to somersault several times before it caught fire.

Four of the passengers were reportedly burnt to death and others sustained injuries.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Mr. Rotimi Adeleye, said the vehicle’s tyre got damaged before it somersaulted while on motion.

“ The accident was caused as a result of over speeding that is why we are appealing to the drivers to mind their speed while traveling, if the speed was not much, the impact of the accident would not have been much”, he said.

He added that the victims had been taken to a hospital in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo Local Government.
