NCC Tennis Championship Climaxes in Style

The 2017 NCC Team Tennis Championship came to a close on Saturday at the tennis section of the Ikoyi Club 1938 amidst fun and pageantry.

The three-day championship, which was the fourth edition had eight teams named after the various telecommunication companies jostled for honour.

In the finals played on Saturday evening Team NTEL got the better of IPNX Nigeria by 21-15 points.

The highlight of the game however was in the men’s singles in which Ekene Nwaokolo defeated Chinedu Idike 9-0.
Speaking at the end of the competition, Head of Public Relations, NCC, Rueben Mouka hailed the high level of performance of tennis displayed by the participants.

“NCC love for tennis is unprecedented and part of our objective at NCC is to interact and feel the pulse of people as to what we are offering through tennis,” Mouka said.

On his part, the Chairman Tennis Section, Esan Ogunleye, said he appreciate the tenacity shown by the participants, while thanking NCC for the sponsorship and accommodating the section’s schedule.

Meanwhile, Team Captain of NTEL, Edet Akpaso charges other corporate organisations to follow the model of NCC in trying to discover more tennis talents in the country.
