Shittu Lauds CIBN Role in Financial Sector Development

The Minister for Communication, Hon. Abdul-Raheem Shittu, has applauded the efforts of the Chartered Institute of Banks of Nigeria (CIBN) in strengthening growth in the financial services sector in the country.

Shittu who disclosed this yesterday in Lagos at the Launch of Alhaji Amusa Oladimeji Gbadamosi Otiti Foundation (AMOGOF) and with the Presentation of a Book entitled: ‘Beyond the Banking Hall,’ said most often than not, people forget the efforts of who play key role in developing and strengthening the financial service sector.

He also stated that any country without a viable financial service sector was not likely to develop economically, adding that there is a need to appreciate the efforts of CIBN in the sector.

Shittu said: “I want to commend the role CIBN is playing in the nation especially in strengthening the financial service sector. Also, it is noteworthy to state here that any country without a viable financial services sector cannot develop economically. Therefore, we must commend CIBN for their efforts.”

Shittu who expressed dismay in the sharp drop of reading culture in the country, said there was need to improve the readership in the country in order get things right.

The Minister lauded the sterling qualities of Alhaji Amusa Otiti, describing him as a man with sufficient lessons in fortitude, courage, discipline and trust in God and also commended the book in written on Otiti.

He explained that the book would be a lesson for everyone and should be placed in libraries and personal use, adding that the content of the book must be put on social media to benefit those who have poor reading culture.

Shittu added: “We are here to launch a book written on Baba Otiti. I am proud to say that Baba Otiti has numerous enlightening books on subject-matters of his interest especially banking and financial services. I know that everyone who have been an icon in the sector in the last 30 years have benefitted in one way or the other from the books baba has written on various issues. Lessons from books such as this are not things you can buy from the market. They necessarily have to do with practical experiences and reports documented which are found in this book.”

Earlier in his remarks, the President of CIBN, Professor Segun Ajibola, who also extolled the virtues of Otite, said a new library has been unveiled by the institute and it is equipped with the state of the art facilities.

He maintained that the library would be a key component Otiti, stressing that they would build on the legacies he has left behind, “the examples of Otiti and his colleagues are many.”
