Boko Haram: 26 Customs Officers Killed in Attacks

By Michael Olugbode in Maiduguri

The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) on Wednesday lamented that 26 of its personnel have been lost to Boko Haram insurgency.

Addressing the press, the Comptroller of the Service in Borno and Yobe States, Mr. Joshua Angbalaga, said that the insurgency in the North-east has seriously affected the activities of Customs in discharging its duty effectively.

He said that this has also adversely affected the revenue of the Command as only one of the 13 economic borders is functioning optimally with another one running skeletal service.

According to him, the border at Gaidam in Yobe State is functional while the other in Gamboru, Borno is functioning skeletally.

Angbalaga said unless the Nigerian military finally crushes the Boko Haram insurgency to free Borno State particularly, the 13 economic borders across Borno and Yobe States would remain closed.
