Andrew Oche Odoh quest for a 3e Actuaries Equatorial Guinea Open treble started on a bright note after he posted a solid two under par 70 thursday over the Mongomo Golf Course in Equatorial Guinea.
The effort left him in a tied for sixth position behind overnight leader Madalitso Muthiya of Zimbabwe, who dictated the momentum at four under par.
Odoh, winner of the 2014 and 2015 titles, sank five birdies to set his mission on track.
Ben Faillet-Smith of Zimbabwe, Luke Joy of England and Ryan Cairns also of Zimbabwe had a share of second position at three under par.
The Nigerian, who teed off in the afternoon, birdied holes 4, 7, 8, 11 and 17.
His charge was, however, curtailed following bogies on holes 1, 5 and 14.
Sunday Olapade and Haruna Mohammed both tied on 17th position at one over par 73.
Olapade from MicCom Club, Ada, Osun State, reached two under only to suffer a costly meltdown in the closing four holes.
First timers, Daniel Pam, Elisha Markus and SJ Odegha, struggled on the long and penal golf course and paid for inconsistency off the tee and on the greens.
Markus carded 77 to leave him in 33rd place, while Pam shot 79 which left him in tied for 40th with Gift Willy.
Odegha grossed 81 to lie in 50th place.
Jany Lee of the US led the ladies at three under par, one stroke ahead of Alejandra Ianaza of Mexico, Elin Arvidsson of Finland and Maria Jose Uribe of Colombo.
Nigeria’s Uloma Mbuko shot 88 which left her in 33 position.
