Group Proposes Urgent Political Summit for Nigeria

The Nigeria Intervention Movement (NIM) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently facilitate a national political summit of all key politicians and leaders in the country to redress what it termed the terrible state of political hara-kiri in the country.

It said this was necessary in the light of recent developments in the country so as not to task the patience of Nigerians or provoke an overdue mass uprising against the irresponsible political system and culture in Nigeria.

Stating this in a statement made available to THISDAY yesterday, the Media Assistant of the group, Olubori Obafemi Isah, said the current Nigerian political leadership has constituted itself into merchants and clogs instead of public servants for the wellbeing and progress of the people.

According to him, “We condemn the lingering messy discord and in fighting within the federal government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC). The many cases of internal crisis and public show of incohesion within the party and the government is a clear evidence that the ruling party has constituted itself into a major setback to productive governance of Nigeria as they bicker among themselves more than govern the country since the party assumed power in 2015

“For us in NIM, such level of dereliction, irresponsibility and self serving culture of impunity in the political leadership of the country is most unacceptable and should be urgently probed and resisted if we must all survive the hardship, poverty and hunger being currently inflicted by ineffective and exploitative politics of Nigeria’s ruling elites,” Isah said.

He also said the movement categorically frowns at the just concluded national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where higher purchase of delegates by deep pockets, money bags and the highest bidders, especially among government custodians, held sway as a clear testimony that the Nigerian democracy was presently a cash and carry business.
