A Party to Remember…As TY Danjuma Celebrates 80th Birthday

Gen. Theophilus (TY) Danjuma is that rare icon fate invents to stun mortality. He is simply matchless in depth and humanity. Thus to his loved ones, Danjuma is a rare gem. There is no such thing in nature or humankind that measures up to his integrity and grace. If you ask them, his children, in-laws and grandchildren would earnestly tell you that he is irreplaceable in their lives and their world is better enriched by his presence. By his industry, lofty politics and compassion, Danjuma excites uncommon adulation which remains the treasure of icons and Africa’s most revered statesmen.

Thus as the former military chief and foremost statesman, clocked 80 yesterday, Saturday, there was a party to celebrate an icon whose positive influence on their lives is immeasurable. It was also used as a thanksgiving ceremony for a highly rewarding lifetime. You could not have forgotten so soon when some people were spreading malicious lie against Danjuma, claiming that the retired military officer is afflicted by a grave ailment that might lead him to an untimely grave.

According to the mischief makers, Danjuma’s ailment was so grievous that he had to be flown out of the country in search of an urgent cure to his sickness. However, contrary to the malicious rumour being spread about him, the oil magnate is actually hale and hearty. Danjuma is not afflicted with any sickness. Danjuma, one of the country’s foremost retired military generals, made his money in the oil and gas sector. A distinguished and highly successful businessman, General T.Y. Danjuma is the founder and Chairman of South Atlantic Petroleum Limited (SAPETRO). In his early life, he had a brilliant career in the Nigerian Army and retired as Chief of Army Staff in 1979. Danjuma’s SAPETRO and NAL/Comet Group, are some of the most successful indigenous oil and gas and shipping agencies/terminal operators in Nigeria.

The celebrant is a recipient of the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) national honour, which is the highest award given in Nigeria to a non-head of state. He also has several other national and international awards and titles, as well as honorary doctorate degrees from notable Nigerian and foreign Universities.
