Wichtech Tennis  Championship Ends Today

The fourth edition of the Wichtech Tennis Championship will come to a close today at the tennis section of Ikoyi Club 1938 after five days of intense tennis action.

This year’s edition drew over 60 participants who jostled for honours.

Sponsors of the tournament, CEO of Wichtech Industries limited, Dr. Chidoze Nwankwo,  said in spite of the harsh economic situation in the country, the tourney would be a regular feature in the Tennis Section’s calendar.

“The fact that the number of participants had increased since the beginning of my company’s sponsorship shows that value had been added to the competition and it would be a permanent feature in the tennis section,” Nwankwo said.

This year’s edition was fashioned around regular Grand Slam, as there was the men’s and women’s singles, mixed doubles and veteran singles.

In a chat with THISDAY, captain of the Tennis Section, Akeem Mustafa said the competition had so far witnessed impressive tennis as participants were well prepared for the competition.

“We’ve witnessed some impressive tennis on display and most of the participants have shown unprecedented tennis artistry. But most importantly we had achieved bonding, socialisation and wellness,” Mustafa said.
